Why You Should Study In Sweden

Why You Should Study In Sweden

Sweden is a Scandinavian country in Northern Europe.  It is the third largest country in the European Union by area, with a population of about 9.5 million.

With over 30 major universities and institutes offering Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs in English, students can choose from over 1,400 study programs and disciplines.

In addition, scholarships and grants are available to students from various countries. Sweden is unarguably one of the best countries to study.

I know at this point, you are asking what does Sweden have to offer an international student?”.. Hold on, I gotcha!

In recent years, Sweden, one of Europe’s overlooked study-abroad destinations, has experienced a huge boost in interest from prospective students, and here’s why:

High-Quality Education

Unquestionably, the Swedish educational system is among the greatest in the world. Did you know that according to the Academic Ranking of the World Universities in 2021, The Karolinska Institute in Sweden is ranked among the top 50 institutions? Click here to read more about it.

In a number of disciplines, including mathematics, mechanical engineering, medicine, physics, software engineering, urban planning, and political science, Sweden is a leader in master’s programs.

This approach places a strong emphasis on personalized learning and gives priority to your academic interests over grades. Universities in Sweden thus equip students with the skills they need to succeed in the future.

Sweden continues to be one of the Top most destinations today followed by the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, and Australia as of 2020.

Some Swedish universities stand within the top 100 universities in the world ranking and some of them are:

  1. – Lund University
  2. – Uppsala University
  3. – Karolinska Institute
  4. – Royal Institute of Technology (KTH)
  5. – Umea University
  6. – The University of Gothenburg etc.

The study programs at the universities are also very flexible. Students can study and work simultaneously while pursuing degrees in Sweden, which will help the gain first-hand knowledge of their respective fields.

Innovative Country

Sweden is one of the most advanced nations on earth and the birthplace of many prosperous companies.

Research in Swedish universities and businesses has led to the successful invention of a variety of products, such as the computer mouse, Bluetooth, dialysis machines, flat screen monitors, telephones, and internet programs like Spotify and Skype.

These most recent discoveries are the result of Sweden’s longstanding tradition of excellence in academics and research. The Nobel Prize and several renowned universities, some of which date back to the fifteenth century, are both located in Sweden.

Because of its intrinsic inventiveness, Sweden has become a powerful country in the fields of design, fashion, and music. It is also one of the nations that export the most music worldwide.

Work While Studying

One of the concerns of a prospective international student is the issue of working a part-time job while studying.

Sweden permits students to do internships and part-time jobs along with their studies. They can also work full-time if they study for at least 40 hours per week. Companies may not pay for internships. However, some of them offer reimbursements and sufficient allowances.

Now here’s the good news: while other countries have limited working hours for their students, Sweden offers unrestricted work rights for student visa holders. Yeah, you read that right – UNRESTRICTED! What this means is that you can work as long as you want, to pay your bills and outstanding tuition.

After completing their studies,  students can stay back for up to six months to a year to look for employment. However, it would be to your advantage if you had a residence permit to remain in the country for as long as you’d like.

Standard of Life

Sweden believes in freedom, equal rights, and sustainability to create a better world. It is one of the most progressive countries, with Stockholm qualifying as an Open City. Almost all the people speak English, making international students feel at home.

Sweden is a beautiful country to live in, with a corporate culture that encourages work-life balance. The Swedes are polite people and mostly keep to themselves. Public services are also excellent.

Using renewable energy sources, low carbon dioxide emissions, and social and governance practices earn Sweden the rank of the most sustainable country globally. So, if you choose to study in Sweden, you’ve got nothing to worry about.

Excellent Location

Studying in Sweden offers international students an opportunity to explore Europe. Think about this, you can actually explore the country and create lasting memories while studying! How amazing is that?

Your temporary residence permit entitles you to travel to all the Schengen countries without applying for separate visas. This allows you to explore the 26 Schengen countries in the European region with ease.

You may also travel to other nations during the validity of the residence permit. So, if you are an international student looking to do your master’s or PhD in Sweden, then I assure you, you’re making the right choice!

      Hello James,

Our Swedish partner institutions neither accept HND nor a background not related to Engineering. However, you have a great chance in one of our partner institutions in the UK if you are willing to consider studying there.

Let us know your decision and we’d be happy to help with the application at no cost.
