2–3 Admission Offers? Choose The Offer You Can Finish

Two or three admission letters feel like success. Then the noise starts: ranking, WhatsApp advice, a deposit due on Friday.

An offer is not the destination. The only offer that matters is the offer you can finish.

Start with your reason

Complete this sentence: I am going abroad to ______

A stronger course. Work after study. A realistic next step. If the answer is “everybody is going,” pause. Trends do not pay rent.

The offer you can finish is the one that serves that sentence.

Score each offer. Keep it simple.

Give each letter 1–5 on these five points:

1. Course fit: Will these modules help the job you want, or is it just a convenient master’s?
2. Full cost: Tuition + rent + visa + insurance + flights + a 3–6 month buffer. Cheap tuition in an expensive city is not cheap.
3. Funds you can show: Admission is not a visa. For Canada, applications from 1 September 2026 need CAD 23,448 in living funds for a single student outside Quebec, plus first-year tuition and travel.
4. Work reality: Post-study work is a bridge, not PR. In the UK, the Graduate visa is 2 years if you apply by 31 December 2026, and 18 months from 1 January 2027.
5. Year-one survival: Can you live in that city without panic in the first 90 days?

The highest total is useful. The lowest score is the warning.

If two offers are close

Ask only this:

• Which one can the family fund without pretending?
• Which one you can explain to a visa officer in one minute?
• Which course you will not resent by month six?

If you cannot fund it, it is not an offer you can finish.
If you cannot explain it, the visa may not survive.
If you will hate the course, the ranking will not save you.

Do not lose a good offer waiting for a perfect one

Note every deposit date. Ask if the deposit comes back after a visa refusal. A clean, complete offer you can accept this week can beat a dream offer that stays conditional.

And if none of the letters match your funds, your course, or your reason, wait. Waiting is a decision. It is often how people later find the offer you can finish.
