Why You Should Never Keep Secrets From Your Student Counsellor

Introduction

Applying to study abroad is exciting — but also stressful. From documents to deadlines, there’s already enough to think about. The last thing you should do? Hide information from your student counsellor.

Why Your Student Counsellor Needs the Full Story

At TGM Education, a student counsellor is your guide through the complex world of study abroad applications. Their job is to make sure your application is strong, complete, and ready for approval. But to do that, they need the truth.

Information You Should Never Hide

Here are a few things students sometimes try to sweep under the rug:

  • Previous visa refusals – Your counsellor needs to prepare the right explanation.
  • Police arrests or legal issues – Even minor ones can affect your visa.
  • Academic struggles – Failed or repeated courses matter more than you think.
  • Medical conditions – Some universities require documentation and support plans.

Secrets vs. Surprises

Remember, a surprise birthday is fun. A surprise visa refusal history? Not so much. When you keep secrets, you’re making it harder for your counsellor to defend your case.

Your Student Counsellor Is on Your Side

Think of your student counsellor as your coach and cheerleader. Their success is your success. The more they know, the better they can fight for your dream.

Conclusion

If studying abroad is the goal, honesty is the passport. So, tell your counsellor everything; the good, the bad, and the slightly embarrassing. They’ve heard it all before, and they’ll use that info to help you succeed.
