FIVE Ways To Save Money While Studying Abroad
Congratulations! You made it. You are probably heading to a great city in September to begin your studies.
In a few months’ time, you would have made new friends and gained invaluable knowledge of a new culture. As an International student in a foreign land, if you do not watch your expenses you will go broke. We have listed five ways that you can save money while studying abroad.
1)Try to get student discounts
Getting student discounts is a good way to save money because you tend to pay way less for products and services like transportation, entertainment, and maybe even food.
There are certain discounts that you can have access to just by being a student.
Some clothing stores in UK with student discounts include:
ASOS
Boohoo
Burton
French Connection
Types of UK student discount cards and online codes
ISIC (worldwide)
TOTUM (UK)
Student discounts for food
Dominos Pizza
Krispy Kreme
McDonald’s
Pizza Express
Student discounts for entertainment/media
Spotify Premium
Apple Music
EE
UK student discounts for school supplies
Amazon.
Please note that there are other stores in Uk that have student discounts.
2)Buy what you need instead of what you want
If you buy things that are considered to be necessities, you tend to spend less money. In fact, if what you bought is costly it will end up not being worth it.
However, if your money is spent on wants that may require hefty prices especially if you have expensive taste, this will be horrible for your budget and drain your bank account.
3)Cancel memberships that you don’t use
If you forget to cancel memberships that you do not use, large amounts of money that you could have used for other needs will go to membership subscriptions that you do not even use which is a very big waste of money.
If you cut unused memberships it saves money and lets you have enough money to spend on more important items.
4)Cut back transportation costs (ESPECIALLY TAXIS)
I am not saying do not use taxis but using them excessively can take away a lot of money from your budget. There are cheaper ways of transport for instance trains, and buses and you could even try riding a bicycle or even walking. All of these will save more money than getting taxis constantly.
5)Stop eating out. I know some of you have already clicked off this and if you hadn’t known the drawbacks of this i would have clicked off as well, but if you are really serious about saving this might just be the tip for you. It is best you reduce the amount you spend on dinner and drinks and save that money.
However, an alternative is maybe having a homemade meal.
