Are you curious about the world? Do you want to develop a better understanding of how film can be used to explore our shared past and the future?

On this film cultures degree, you’ll study film not as a form in isolation, but as part of a dynamic matrix linked to novels, visual art, video games, fashion, design, television and social change. The story of film is also a story of changing technology, from the first experiments in the moving image to the latest immersive experiences.

Film cultures encourages a wide and diverse range of responses too: not just traditional essays and presentations, but creative work, with a professional focus that will prepare you for a variety of potential careers.

You’ll be assessed, for example, on how you plan a festival, curate an archive, undertake promotional copywriting and review for different media platforms. You’ll learn through practice. There are many professional routes outside film studies and filmmaking, and our degree will introduce you to people already working in those areas.

This degree will develop you for a career in the film or creative industries.
