Develop electronic products and systems by studying a course committed to giving you hands-on design experience. We are dedicated to teaching you traditional theories and we will give you a thorough grounding in electronics and how to apply them within a system. What makes our course stand out is our emphasis on learning through doing. You will get involved in live projects that provide you with an opportunity to practise your skills straight away.
We have created this course so that you can understand, design and maintain electronic and electrical systems, allowing you to make a difference to companies across a range of sectors. From the defence industry to controlling food manufacturing plants, this course will leave you well placed to pursue a career in whatever area interests you the most.
Whether it is configuring electronic devices through software, creating devices that can be used in many applications, designing electronic products or programming embedded systems, you will develop strengths in all of these areas. We will show you how to achieve sustainable solutions to problems and take an engineering simulation from concept to the final electronic device.
Our greatest strength is our contact with industry. We provide you with access to cutting-edge equipment and state-of-the-art laboratories thanks to our partnership with Farnell – a world leading distributor of electronic, electrical, industrial and maintenance, repair and operations products.
In addition to using Farnell’s facilities at their Kirkstall premises in Leeds you will be given the opportunity to do a lot of design and simulation using Lab View and ELVIS boards simulation software and embedded systems development boards at our own Headingley campus.
As part of an exciting engineering design project with Farnell you will get the opportunity in your first year to build a robot and programme it to work out a maze.
Our links with industry also mean that you will benefit from guest lectures by professionals working in the field and site visits to see electronic and electrical engineering in action.
