Take your interest in audio to the next level and gain the technical, scientific and engineering expertise that will enable you to produce high-quality audio solutions.
Audio engineering covers an array of environments – live music events, loudspeaker design, studio sound, theatre halls and sound reproduction systems, to name just a few. You will graduate with the ability to understand the physical nature and behaviour of sound and use this to benefit audio production and performance.
We offer access to professional-standard recording studios and some of the latest computer resources for software engineering. You will have a variety of tools to practice acoustic analysis – measuring sound pressure levels, frequency and impulse response – allowing you to look at how a speaker performs. Digital signal processing software will also be available to you, enabling you to design your own audio software tools.
You will benefit from our strong links with the music industry and learn from guest lectures delivered by industry experts. Previously, companies including Prism Sound, manufacturers of audio products for recording studios and broadcasts, have visited to speak to our students. Students on our courses have also benefitted greatly from attending professional development training days from loudspeaker and PA manufacturers.
A common route into the audio industries is often self-employment, working with venues and clients, gaining experience that can often lead to full-time employment. We will help develop your communication skills so you have the confidence to take this path.
